PLEASE NOTE: FINER DETAILS ARE SUBJECT TO ‘VERY MINOR’ CHANGES, E.G. START/END TIMES AND THE SPECIFIC MEETING POINT COULD MOVE/CHANGE A LITTLE. IF THERE ARE NOT SUFFICIENT NUMBERS THE SESSIONS WILL NOT GO AHEAD.
This Explorer Nordic Walk starts from Farthing Downs and takes in the pretty and historic Chaldon Church (which we are hoping to go inside and visit). Chaldon Church states it has a rich history and is internationally renowned for its twelfth-century wall painting on its west wall, which is a superb example of medieval art, the church is also mentioned in the Doomsday book and contains ornately carved burial monuments, the oldest being from 1656. This session is not about pace/speed/intensity, but instead exploring/taking in and enjoying the company/area/views/nature (though still great training/exercise, with the support of an instructor, who’s happy to help you with technique if you wish, just ask)! This session is done under the guidance/correction and motivation of a qualified, insured and First Aid Trained Nordic Walking Instructor. Dates: Thursday 2nd May 2024 – start time: 10:30am end time: 12:30 to 1pm Saturday 4th May 2024 – start time: 9:30am end time: 11:30am to noon Saturday 11th May 2024 – start time: 9:30am end time: 11:30am to noon Start and End Point: Farthing Downs (circular route) We will go as fast as our most gentle Nordicer and allow time for folks to enjoy their surroundings and spend a little time in the church, so the finish time cannot be guaranteed. This route has been designed specifically to avoid the steep/big hills, and where there is elevation, they're reasonably gentle climbs, which will be taken at a nice gentle pace, enjoying/taking the views in along the way Meeting Point: Farthing Downs Ditches Lane Croydon CR5 1DA What3words map: https://w3w.co/gladiators.exam.allows Google map: https://goo.gl/maps/NB3Uye1c3mocQVNG7 Public Transport: Coulsdon South and local buses approx. 2kms (note – it is mostly uphill). Parking: Pay for parking by card or App. (car park closes at dusk and the toilets are open till 30mins before that). Approx distance: 6.5 km Approx duration: 2-2.5 hours Toilets: Yes Café: NO Instructor ratio: 1/15 or 2/30 Pole hire: £1.00 per session Instructor: Angela Gossington Cost: 2 Credits We'd really love to introduce you all to the pleasure of exploring different/new local beauty spots/spaces/places, at a relaxed pace, and making the most of the freedom you have to explore (because of the hard work you put in on your regular walks)! REFUND POLICY: Poles Apart Cancellation - If sessions are cancelled or rescheduled by Poles Apart Nordic Walking, you shall be offered a ‘Session Transfer’ to another date, or a refund. For Individuals Cancelling – PLEASE NOTE: As Explorer Walks are organised, confirmed and made viable, on the basis of a minimum number of participants, cancellations will not be re-credited. Credits/Session may be moved/used on any of this series of Farthing Downs/Chaldon Church walks. (This walk series takes place 2nd, 4th 11th May), if spaces are available. However, any individual cancelling Explorer Walks will only have credits re-credited to their account at the discretion of the Owner/Operator of Poles Apart. If cancellation is made via the Booking System, any automatic re-credit made by the Booking System will be subsequently manually zero'd. A refund (partial or full) of credits will only be applied in extenuating circumstances, arranged at Poles Apart discretion. We appreciate your understanding on this matter. If you have it available a small/slim Rucksack (with chest strap – or a piece of ribbon or string to pull the straps away from your shoulders will do!) or drinking belt for carrying water would be useful. Over the shoulder bags and rucksacks 'without' chest straps do get in the way when you are Nordic Walking so if possible avoid bringing them. WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS: Hot weather - Please ensure you have applied sunscreen on hot days. Bring plenty of water, to avoid dehydrating. A hat is useful if you are sensitive to the sun. Cold weather – As well as layers of warm clothing, bring 'thin' gloves (not ski type gloves as you wear wrist straps) and a hat if the weather is cold. You will warm-up due to the cardiovascular nature of the class, but we are in Great Britain and on some days the 'fresh' breezes can keep the temperature down. Mosquito's/Horse Flies/Ticks - Parks with trees and long grass are a favourite hang-out for Mozzy's, ticks and Horse Flies. Last summer there were reports of people getting bites and having unpleasant reaction's so please do apply some insect repellent. Ticks are on the increase in some areas of the UK and are most active March-October, so if you want to avoid picking up a tick, wearing clothes which cover your skin will help. The Wellbeing Nordic Walk is a gentle one for trained Nordic Walkers who wish to get out and practice/develop their Nordic Walking Technique and improve their fitness levels, whilst working at a pace appropriate for them.
You will receive support, technique guidance/correction and motivation from a qualified Nordic Walking and First Aid Trained Instructor. Additionally, the Wellbeing Nordic Walks are at a significantly slower pace than other sessions, consequently the distances covered are somewhat shorter. We do warm-up exercises before the session and cool-down stretches after our Nordic Walk. The warm-ups and cool-downs are slightly different and slower paced than other sessions, to allow participants more time to transition between each exercise/stretch. These sessions also sometimes incorporate exercises designed to improve balance, strength, mobility and general fitness. Our Nordic Walking Group has evolved to become its own little community consisting of friendly, welcoming and supportive people who enjoy a chat whilst they exercise. You can participate with the social element as much, or as little, as you wish. Contact details are outlined below: Lynn (Owner/Instructor/Office): Email: lynn@polesapart.biz Tel.: 07586 456 682 Please note: Works out in the Park and cannot always access emails immediately. Will respond as soon as possible when returning to the office. Gin (Office): Email: enquiries@polesapart.biz Please note: Works Part-time Hours and will respond as soon as possible. Please only contact Yvonne when notifying of a late session cancellation. Yvonne (Instructor) Mob.: 07522 959 477 Email: nordicpolesapart@gmail.com Please only contact Angela when notifying of a late session cancellation. Angela (Instructor) Mob.: 07939 815334 Email: nordic.polesapart.3@outlook.com REMINDERS/RECOMMENDATIONS: Appropriate Footwear – You are advised to wear comfortable footwear that has good grip/tread, suitable for varying terrain such as wet grass, gravel, mud e.g. - trainers. Ideally, for your comfort, flexible soled shoes that are breathable and waterproof are recommended, such as waterproof trainers or flexible walking shoes. It can get very muddy in the park after heavy rain fall. Appropriate Clothing - Due to the rapidly changing weather conditions our wonderful country displays. You are advised to wear appropriate clothing for changing weather conditions. (layers of breathable clothing that can be removed/replaced as your own/surrounding temperature dictates.) You will be moving your arms and legs throughout the session so loose-fitting clothes are recommended for your comfort. Water/Rucksack (with chest-strap) - As you will be carrying poles you will not be able to carry water in your hand.
You will be moving your arms and legs throughout the session so loose-fitting clothes are recommended for your comfort. Water/Rucksack (with chest-strap) - As you will be carrying poles you will not be able to carry water in your hand.
