Ideally, for your comfort, flexible soled shoes that are breathable and waterproof are recommended, such as waterproof trainers or flexible walking shoes. It can get very muddy in the park after heavy rain fall.Appropriate Clothing - Due to the rapidly changing weather conditions our wonderful country displays. You are advised to wear appropriate clothing for changing weather conditions. (Layers of breathable clothing that can be removed/replaced as your own/surrounding temperature dictates). You will be moving your arms and legs throughout the session so loose-fitting clothes are recommended for your comfort.Water/Rucksack (with chest-strap) - As you will be carrying poles you will not be able to carry water in your hand. If you have it available a small/slim rucksack (with chest strap – or a piece of ribbon or string to pull the straps away from your shoulders will do) or drinking belt for carrying water would be useful. Over the shoulder bags and rucksacks without chest straps get in the way when you are Nordic Walking so if possible avoid bringing them.WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS:Hot weather - Please ensure you have applied sunscreen on hot days. Bring plenty of water, to avoid dehydrating. A hat is useful if you are sensitive to the sun.Cold weather – As well as layers of warm clothing, bring 'thin' gloves (not ski type gloves as you wear wrist straps) and a hat if the weather is cold. You will warm-up due to the cardiovascular nature of the class, but we are in Great Britain and on some days the 'fresh' breezes can keep the temperature down.Mosquito's/Horse Flies/Ticks - Parks with trees and long grass are a favourite hang-out for mozzy's, ticks and horse flies. Last summer there were reports of people getting bites and having unpleasant reaction's so please do apply some insect repellent. Ticks are on the increase in some areas of the UK and are most active March-October, so if you want to avoid picking up a tick, wearing clothes which cover your skin will help. More information on ticks can be found here: https://www.thebmc.co.uk/hill-skills-tick-alert |

The Wellbeing Nordic Walk is a gentle one for trained Nordic Walkers who wish to get out and practice/develop their Nordic Walking Technique and improve their fitness levels, whilst working at a pace appropriate for them. You will receive support, technique guidance/correction and motivation from a qualified Nordic Walking and First Aid Trained Instructor. Additionally, the Wellbeing Nordic Walks are at a significantly slower pace than other sessions, consequently the distances covered are somewhat shorter. We do warm-up exercises before the session and cool-down stretches after our Nordic Walk. The warm-ups and cool-downs are slightly different and slower paced than other sessions, to allow participants more time to transition between each exercise/stretch.These sessions also sometimes incorporate exercises designed to improve balance, strength, mobility and general fitness. Our Nordic Walking Group has evolved to become its own little community consisting of friendly, welcoming and supportive people who enjoy a chat whilst they exercise. You can participate with the social element as much, or as little, as you wish.MEETING POINT: Nonsuch Mansion Car-Park, Nonsuch Park, Sutton SM3 8ALWe meet at the Poles Apart flag just to the left of the car-park closest to the Mansion House.
